May 9th 2008
The school is now being dismantled and a historical survey
is being taken during the process to ensure that there will be an accurate
record of one of Blackpool's oldest buildings. Completion is scheduled for
the summer of 2009. |

The big news is that our
beloved old school building, home to many generations of Blackpool children,
has become old and tired, and will give way to a more contemporary
construction which will inspire just as much pride as the old one has for
well over a century. |

Last summer we held
an Open Day inviting former pupils to say a fond farewell to the current
school building. And what a day it was! The oldest
guest we had attended our school in 1918 and there were former pupils from
every decade since then, wandering around and meeting up again with old
friends.

The St. John's
BIGGEST Ever School Reunion was held at Blackpool Football Club Hospitality
Suite on
Saturday 9th June 2007 for ex-pupils, teachers, &
friends of the school (and partners/spouses)
Over a hundred people attended, including the mayor, the
Director of Education for Blackpool and two ex- head teachers and ex-pupils
from over 5 decades. We dined, we heard reminiscences of the school in the
past and a
presentation of our plans for the future - (what will the new St. John's look
like?) - then we danced to the music of the Jazz Aces.
What a great evening!
